Restructuring: a rescue remedy
With over 12,000 homes, including sheltered and adapted houses for adults with special needs, Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH) is the largest registered social landlord in Wirral.
Five years ago, however, the organisation was part of the Local Authority.
Transferring to the private sector was inevitably going to involve major restructuring. Not just to get the new company up and running, but to update and streamline the operation to provide the services their residents really wanted.
Sysco’s Inward Investor and Restructuring Programme (IRR) enabled WPH to stretch the training budget to the maximum. WPH Site Management Team Leader Phil Haley feels that the new culture of ‘training for all’ has been a really positive step forward. “I’ve seen so many improvements,” he says. “Everyone works as part of a team. We have regular one-to-ones, a personal development plan, and access to as much training as we need, ranging from mandatory First Aid at Work to customer service NVQs as well as management and leadership courses.
“For me personally, my time management has vastly improved. Everything is now planned and I know what my priorities are.
“But best of all is the knowledge that the company has really got behind us – we’re treated like professionals and feel we’re playing a valuable part in the organisation’s success.”
• With Sysco’s Inward Investor and Restructuring Response Programme (IRR), companies that are restructuring, downsizing or investing into the region can access funded training, bespoke or accredited, to help staff develop the new skills needed for change.
• Sysco delivers the IRR Programme to companies based in Merseyside, Halton, Warrington, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria.
