Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship

Who should do this award?

The Retail programme can cover learners who work in market stalls and independent shops to national chains and large superstores. Candidates could be assisting customers on the sales floor, handling their purchases, creating shop / window display, dealing with stock behind the scenes or working in a specialist department and become a product expert able to help with specific queries for example as a Beauty Consultant or Fresh Food Counter Assistant.

What are the benefits of this award?

This programme covers a range of skills that can be used across this vast sector. Upon completion of the programme candidates will improve their Customer Service skills, understand the retail selling process, learn the importance of retail consumer law and team working and how the effectiveness of store operations can be improved.

Assessment Methods

Candidates will be allocated an individual assessor who will visit them at the workplace once every 3 - 4 weeks. They will use a variety of different assessment methods to demonstrate competence within the diploma ranging from observations, work products, witness statements, professional discussions, question and answers and workbooks. In addition learners will be given underpinning knowledge within their role and on completion of the test will gain the Technical Certificate Qualification.

As part of the Diploma programme every learner will be able to complete their Key Skills certificates. These are practical skills in Communication and Application of Number. The Key Skills awards give learners the opportunity to develop, practice and apply skills in meaningful workplace contexts and upon completion of the tests and a portfolio will complete the Key Skills qualifications.

How many credits will be achieved?

To achieve the Level 2 Apprenticeship Diploma in retail, learners must gain 37 credits of which will come from a mixture of the mandatory units and optional units. It will take up to 12 months to achieve a Level 2 Diploma.

What can the course cover?

In addition to the mandatory unit working effectively in your retail environment, candidates will then work with their allocated assessor to choose the most relevant optional units for their job role which could include; demonstrate products, maintain food safety while working, planning and preparing displays, process payments for purchases, give customers a positive impression and many more.
