National Museums Liverpool put their commitment on show

With 600 employees in Merseyside, National Museums Liverpool has made a significant move towards a premier league workforce for Merseyside. By making The Skills Pledge, they are showing their commitment to helping all staff reach their full potential and develop the skills they need in a rapidly changing world.

“The talent, dedication and enthusiasm of our staff is outstanding and fundamental in driving our mission and values,” says Mary Kenny, the NML’s Training and Development Manager.
Working with regional training provider Sysco, National Museums Liverpool aims to ensure that all employees achieve their first full Level 2 qualification, with help with literacy and numeracy skills if required.
“Nationally, nearly 30% of the adult workforce haven’t gained a Level 2 qualification and many people need support to brush up literacy and numeracy skills support,” says Sysco Development Manager Kate Corrin. “This skills deficiency must be redressed. Forecasts show that although overall employment levels will fall, employees will need to be more highly skilled in order to strengthen the nation’s competitive advantage within the global market.

“National Museums Liverpool has made a public pledge to make skills a priority, and I would urge more companies to follow their lead.”

• Business leaders in Merseyside have been making a public commitment to their staff throughout 2009 by turning out in force to sign the Skills Pledge. Making the Pledge will make it much easier for these businesses to identify their training needs and to access funding. Sysco can help you to sign up and show your commitment.
